What is Cloudflare, and why is it in between?

Short version: Cloudflare is like a friendly doorman standing in front of your website. Visitors meet the doorman first. He lets the good ones in quickly and turns the bad ones away.

What Cloudflare does for you

Faster

Cloudflare keeps copies of your pages close to your visitors, like a local shop instead of a faraway warehouse.

Safer

It blocks fake visitors and attacks, and hides where your website really lives.

Always reachable

If something hiccups behind the scenes, your visitors are much less likely to notice.

Do I need to do anything?

Usually not. We set it up for you. Your website looks exactly the same, it just loads faster and is better protected.

Why did I get an email about “DNS settings” or Cloudflare?

DNS is the phone book of the internet. It says which address belongs to your domain name. When we move your website, one entry in this phone book has to change so your name points to the new place, through Cloudflare.

Around that moment, Cloudflare or your domain provider may send automated emails, for example “DNS settings changed”, “confirm your domain” or “nameserver update”. These are normal.

How to tell the email is okay
